So you’ve decided to have a go at SEO by yourself and are looking for a few tips on how to get great search engine positions and outrank your competition.
1. Don’t – You Do What You’re best At!
So rule number one, is don’t do DIY SEO. We have had so many clients who have tried to do it themselves and just run out of steam and ended up ditching the entire thing, even the business due to burn out. Or ended up hiring us to clean up the mess they’re made. If you’re good at what you do, then do what you do best and leave SEO to the experts. Having said that please do get involves in the SEO campaign and get back to us on time with any amends you need and let’s make articles, blog posts, video etc live on time so we’re working to the project plan.
2. If You Still Decide To Go The DIY SEO Route – Then Do Your Keyword Research
Don’t skip this step. You don’t want to end up ranking for the wrong keywords and end up with very little decent target traffic. This will result in wasted effort.
3. Know Your Competition
We can’t emphasise this enough. The amount of effort you need to make in terms of SEO will be dictated by how many competing web pages there are for these keywords (and the strength and quality of these web pages of course).
4. Have A Goal, Make A Plan, Track Results
Know your targets, what results will mean your project is a success, plan out what you’ll do to achieve your goals, decide which milestones need to be hit to show you’ve made progress.
5. Celebrate Your Successes
If you’re one of the few who’ve managed to successfully achieve DIY SEO results for your website then well done, celebrate your successes and ensure you keep up the good work. You may have achieved SEO success but is as much work still coming into your business or was this neglected due to your DIY SEO efforts. Be honest and look at lessons learned in an objective way. Was it really worth your time or would you have been better off afterall paying a SEO expert whilst you did what you’re best at?
